Why Chippewa Falls Homeowners Call Us
Most people who call a roofer are not sure what they need yet. There is a stain on a bedroom ceiling, a few shingles in the yard after a windy night, or a roof that is simply getting old. Our job on the first visit is to find out what is actually going on and tell you plainly.
That starts on the roof, not at the kitchen table. We check the shingles or panels, the flashing at chimneys and walls, the pipe boots, the valleys and the vents. If a roof repair will solve the problem, we quote the repair. If the roof is past the point where patching makes sense, we show you why and price a full roof replacement.
- Roofing only. Repair, replacement, metal and flat roofs are all we do.
- A written estimate. Scope, materials and price on paper before any work starts.
- Photos of what we find. You see what we saw up there, and the pictures are yours to keep.
Storm and Hail Damage Help
Summer thunderstorms in the Chippewa Valley bring hail and straight-line winds, and the damage is not always obvious from the driveway. Hail bruises shingles and knocks the granules loose. Wind lifts tabs, breaks the seal strip and peels back ridge caps. A roof can look fine from the ground and still be letting water in a year later.
If a storm has been through your neighborhood, we will inspect the roof for free and tell you honestly whether we see hail or wind damage or just normal wear. You get dated photos to hand to your insurance adjuster. Whether a claim is covered is your insurer's decision, not ours, so we will never promise you a "free roof."
- Free storm damage inspections for hail, wind and fallen limbs.
- Photo documentation you can share with your adjuster.
- Temporary tarping when the roof is open and rain is on the way.

What a New Roof Costs in Chippewa Falls
Roofers price by the square, which is 100 square feet of roof surface. A small ranch or bungalow might be around 15 squares. A larger two-story with an attached garage can run 35 or more.
$400 – $600per square · Architectural asphalt shingles
The roof on most Chippewa Falls homes. HomeGuide and HomeAdvisor both put architectural shingles at about $4 to $6 per square foot installed.
$500 – $1,200per square · Exposed-fastener steel panels
Screw-down ribbed steel, common on garages, pole barns and machine sheds, and on some homes. HomeGuide lists $5 to $12 per square foot installed.
$900 – $1,600per square · Standing seam metal
Concealed-fastener panels with raised seams. HomeGuide lists $9 to $16 per square foot installed.
$400 – $1,000per square · EPDM or TPO flat roofing
Single-ply membrane for flat and low-slope roofs. HomeGuide lists TPO at $4 to $10 per square foot installed and EPDM rubber at $3.50 to $10.
Ranges are national figures published by the cost guides HomeGuide and HomeAdvisor, converted to roofing squares (100 square feet of roof surface). They are typical ranges, not quotes. Your price depends on the roof itself, which is why we measure and inspect it before we quote.
Material is only part of the price. A steep roof takes longer and needs more safety setup than a walkable one. Two layers of old shingles cost more to tear off and haul away than one. Soft or rotted decking has to be replaced before anything goes over it, and ventilation that was never right is cheapest to fix while the roof is open. We price those things after we have seen them, not before.
If you are weighing materials, compare asphalt shingle roofing with standing seam and steel metal roofing. When a storm did the damage, your insurer may carry part of the cost, and that is a separate conversation from the price of the roof.
Approximate Roof Cost Calculator
Pick a roof size and a material to see the typical installed range.
A rough range built from published national per-square figures (HomeGuide and HomeAdvisor), not a quote. A square is 100 square feet of roof surface. Pitch, tear-off layers, decking repairs and ventilation all change the real number, which is why we measure the roof before we price it.
Roofing Chippewa Falls Homes: Older Houses, River Valley Weather and Permits
A roof here has a harder life than the brochure assumes. The details that matter most in Chippewa Falls are the ones that deal with snow, ice and the age of the house underneath.
Older homes, ranches and lake places
The older houses near downtown and along the Chippewa River tend to have steep roofs, dormers, brick chimneys and, often, more than one layer of old roofing over plank decking. They need careful flashing work and a real look at the deck once the old roof is off. Mid-century ranches have the opposite problem: low slopes that shed water slowly and are the first to suffer from ice at the eaves.
Newer subdivisions toward Lake Hallie are simpler roofs, but whole streets were shingled around the same time and tend to wear out together. Around Lake Wissota, tree cover keeps roofs damp and shaded, which invites moss and algae, and open water gives the wind a long run at the shingles. Out toward Bloomer, Cadott and Jim Falls there are farmhouses, pole barns and machine sheds, where steel roofing often makes the most sense. Businesses with flat roofs are a different job again, and we handle those under commercial and flat roofing.
Snow, ice dams and freeze-thaw
The Wisconsin State Climatology Office lists the 1991 to 2020 normal snowfall at the nearby Eau Claire station as 55.4 inches a year, with a normal January low of 5.8°F. Snow sits on a roof for weeks at a time, melts from the heat below, and refreezes at the cold edge. That is an ice dam, and it is the most common cause of winter leaks we see on shingle roofs.
Wisconsin's Uniform Dwelling Code (SPS 321.28) calls for ice dam protection at the eaves of lower-slope shingle roofs over heated space, running at least 30 inches up from the roof edge and at least 12 inches past the inside face of the exterior wall. We treat that as the minimum. Spring and fall freeze-thaw cycles also open up small gaps in flashing and sealant, which is why a roof that was dry all winter can start to leak in April.
Tear-offs and permits in Chippewa Falls
The same state code does not allow a new roof covering over one that already has two or more layers, or over a base that is water-soaked or deteriorated. In practice, most replacements here are full tear-offs.
Inside the city, the Chippewa Falls Inspection and Zoning office says replacements such as windows, siding and roofing need a building permit unless the estimated project value is under $2,000. Villages and towns outside the city limits set their own rules, so we confirm what applies to your address before work starts.
How a Roofing Job Works, Start to Finish
Three steps, the same on a small repair as on a whole new roof.
-
Inspect
We look at the roof itself: shingles or panels, flashing, pipe boots, valleys and vents, plus the attic side where we can get to it. You get photos of what we find.
-
Written estimate
You get the scope, the materials and the price in writing, with repair and replacement options laid out when both make sense. Take the time you need to decide.
-
Install & clean up
We protect the landscaping, do the work as written, and tell you first if we uncover something like rotted decking. Then we haul the debris and run magnets for nails.

Read Our Reviews Where We Can’t Edit Them
You will not find a wall of hand-picked quotes on this website. Reviews of Chippewa Falls Roofing Co. are posted on Google, where customers write them in their own words and we cannot change or remove what they say.
When you read reviews for any roofer, look for recent ones, for jobs like yours, and for how the company handled things when something did not go to plan. That tells you more than a star count.
To find them, search Google for "Chippewa Falls Roofing Co." and open the business profile beside the results. Then ask us about the job you have in mind, and judge the answer you get.
Roofing Questions Chippewa Falls Homeowners Ask
How much does a new roof cost in Chippewa Falls?
It depends on the size of the roof, the pitch, how many layers come off and the material you choose. As a starting point, the national cost guide HomeGuide puts architectural asphalt shingles at about $4 to $6 per square foot installed and standing seam metal at about $9 to $16. Those are typical ranges, not quotes. We measure and inspect the roof, then give you a written price for your house.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Chippewa Falls?
Usually, yes. The City of Chippewa Falls Inspection and Zoning office says replacements such as windows, siding and roofing require a building permit unless the estimated project value is under $2,000. Rules are different in the villages and towns outside the city limits, so we confirm what applies to your address before any work starts.
Can you put new shingles over my old roof?
Sometimes it is allowed, but we rarely recommend it. Wisconsin's Uniform Dwelling Code does not permit a new roof covering over a roof that already has two or more layers, or over one that is water-soaked or too deteriorated to be a sound base. A full tear-off also lets us see the decking, replace soft boards and put ice and water protection where it belongs.
Should I repair my roof or replace it?
If the roof has plenty of life left and the problem is in one place, such as a cracked pipe boot, loose flashing or a few missing shingles, a repair is usually the right call. If the shingles are curling, losing granules across the whole roof or leaking in several spots, repairs stop paying for themselves. We will show you photos of what we find and tell you which side of that line your roof is on.
What causes ice dams, and can they damage my roof?
Ice dams form when heat escaping through the attic melts snow on the upper roof and the meltwater refreezes at the cold eaves. Water backs up behind the ice and can work under the shingles and into the house. The lasting fix is usually a combination of air sealing, attic insulation and ventilation, backed up by ice and water membrane at the eaves when the roof is replaced.
Do you install metal roofs on houses, or only on pole barns?
Both. We install standing seam and exposed-fastener steel roofs on homes and garages, and on pole barns, machine sheds and other outbuildings around Chippewa County. Which system makes sense depends on the building, the roof pitch and the budget.
Do you offer free roof estimates, and which areas do you cover?
Yes. Estimates and roof inspections are free. We work in Chippewa Falls, Lake Hallie, Lake Wissota, Bloomer, Cadott, Jim Falls and the rural parts of Chippewa County in between.
What should I do if my roof is leaking right now?
Move what you can out from under the leak, catch the water in a bucket, and take a few photos of the ceiling and the roof from the ground. Stay off the roof, especially when it is wet or icy. Then call us. We are open 8am–6pm and can talk through temporary tarping and the permanent repair.
